The Photographers 2014
20 November – 23 December 2014
Many of you will know that we have a new interest in photography. In part this reflects a logical evolution of the art market. Photography is simply another medium for great art, to add to painting, prints and sculpture for which we are well known. However we break new ground with the current exhibition, which includes rare iconic images by some of the best known photographers of all time, from the dawn of photography to the present day.
This show is a joint venture between Osborne Samuel and our friends at Beetles + Huxley, renowned dealers in photography based in Swallow Street, a five minute walk from the gallery. The show will be in both galleries and will be broadly chronological. Beetles + Huxley will focus on such celebrated contemporary photographers such as Julie Blackmon, Alex MacLean, Justine Blau and Michael Najjar. Whereas we will show a survey of important late 19th and 20th century photography. The exhibition at Osborne Samuel includes such legendary photographers as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Dorothea Lange, Horst P Horst, Walker Evans, Cecil Beaton, Robert Mapplethorpe, Lord Snowdon, Brassai, Bill Brandt, Man Ray, Irving Penn, William Klein and Edward Steichen.
